SHR™ Laminates for Photo Paper

Create Photo Paper for Digital Photos

Nobelus SHR Laminates enable photo labs to create high-quality photo paper for digitally printed photographs. As photo paper shortages continue to affect photo labs across the photofinishing industry, many printers are turning from conventional silver halide printing to digital alternatives such as SHR. Silver halide replacement (SHR) is an innovative photofinishing method that utilizes digital printing technology and thermal lamination to combat the most common issues facing the photofinishing market while preserving the quality and appeal of traditional photos.

By moving from conventional methods to SHR, photo labs can reduce material costs compared to silver halide photo paper, minimize lead times due to material shortages, and even reach untapped corners of the market with new photo applications, such as photo books, calendars, and more. First, photographs are printed on standard paper using a digital press. Then the printed photos are laminated with PlatinumSHR 1.6 mil Gloss Laminate, a stippled finish that perfectly recreates the look and feel of conventional silver halide photographs. By laminating the back side of the photo with PlatinumOPP 1.0 mil Matte Laminate, printers can create protective photo paper in-house and give digital photos the same feel and protection as silver halide prints.
